Overview of Registration Process

The matter of registration is covered under Parts II and III and Section 64 of the Manitoba Medical Act .  Licence is defined in the Act as a certificate issued by the Registrar to a person registered under section 14 indicating that the person is authorized to practise in the province of Manitoba during the period covered by that licence.

The qualifications for registration are listed in Manitoba Regulation 25/2003.

The Educational Register is provided for in Section 11 of the Medical ActPart 1, Section 11(1)(b) refers to graduates of other medical schools and requires that the candidate has passed "a screening process approved by Council".  This Council has approved the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination (MCCEE) and will also recognize the licensing examination of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FLEX) and the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Part I and Part II.  A candidate who is admitted to the Educational Register Part 1 on the basis of one of the American examinations, however, must still pass the MCCEE before becoming eligible to write the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (LMCC).
