Undertakings (Voluntary Physician Agreements
with the College)
Some physicians
experience personal problems (such as financial, chemical/alcohol
use, gambling, stress and isolation, sexual/psychological
harassment) which may place patients at risk. Some
physicians in these situations make a voluntary undertaking with
the College to address the problem. In some cases,
physicians participate in a physician support and assistance
program called “Physicians At Risk” for
physicians in Manitoba administered by the Manitoba Medical
Association. Physicians who participate in the program
may enter into specific therapies to address their
problem. They may sign agreements with the College to
limit or temporarily cease practice. Disclosure may be
anti-therapeutic and the circumstances of these physicians will not
be identified or disclosed.
