Preparing for your annual Certificate of Practice renewal: What you need to know

September 23, 2025 |
Registration

CPSM registrants are required to renew their Certificate of Practice annually. A renewal consists of completing an online questionnaire and paying the renewal fee.

Renewals for Medical Corporations must also be completed at this at this time.

Renewal must be completed by Registrants only.

As a CPSM registrant, you are personally responsible for completing your annual renewal. This is an important part of your professional accountability. Please take the time to review and answer each question as accurately as possible. The renewal must be completed by you, the registrant; please do not ask others (e.g., spouse, partner, or administrative staff) to complete the renewal on your behalf.

Certain sections of the renewal questionnaire will be auto-populated with information from your previous renewal. Correct any information as necessary to ensure your information remains up-to-date.

Here are some reminders and tips to help you prepare for an efficient renewal process.

1. NEW THIS YEAR: BILLING PAYMENT OPTION

In response to requests from individuals who prefer to use payment methods other than credits cards and to reduce expenses associated with credit card service fees, we are implementing a bill payment option.

The bill payment option ensures that your fees are directed toward services rather than credit card processing costs.

At the end of your renewal questionnaire, you will be asked to choose your preferred payment method: either Bill Payment or Credit Card. The portal will move you through the process depending on which option you selected.

If you select Bill Payment, you will have the option to pay your renewal fee through bill payment services offered by all major banks and some credit unions.

For this year, you will receive a small discount (1%) applied on your fees if you select the bill payment option in your renewal.

Please note: We have made our best efforts to ensure all banks and credit unions include CPSM as a payee for online/mobile banking. However, there may be some financial institutions where CPSM is not listed as a payee. Please email CPSM@cpsm.mb.ca if your financial institution is not on the list.

Bill payment instructions specific to your financial institution will be displayed at the end of your renewal.

2. SET ASIDE 20-30 MINUTES

Certificate of Practice renewals include a series of questions you must respond to, which take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. Please read the questions carefully, as they may have changed from last year.

This is your opportunity to update your information and disclose any changes. Notifying CPSM of any updates and changes that may impact your practice is mandatory.

See the list of Disclosure Requirements and Notice of Changes for more details.

3. HAVE YOUR LOGIN INFORMATION READY

You will receive your renewal notice by email before the end of September. When renewing, please have ready:

Username: Your username will be included in the renewal notice. (Please note that your username is not your email.)

Password: Your password has not changed since your last login. If you have forgotten your password, navigate to the CPSM Portal and select Click Here to Recover Your Password to change your password.

You can find the CPSM Portal login on the top right corner of any page on the CPSM website.

Once your payment has been made, a receipt will be available to download directly from the CPSM portal.

4. AVOID LATE PENALTIES BY COMPLETING YOUR RENEWAL BY OCTOBER 31

The deadline for renewal is October 31. Renewals completed after this date are subject to late penalties.

On November 1, a late fee will be applied.

On December 1, an additional daily, late fee applies. See the table below for more details.

5. NEW QUESTIONS ADDED

We have made some changes to the questions this year. We are gathering and organizing information to capture a more accurate picture of the work of the medical profession in the province. This will allow aggregation of the information to strengthen health workforce data and guide planning, both provincially and nationally.
