2026 Council Election Results
Last year, CPSM Council identified the need to enhance the Council election process. A working group of Council members completed a thorough review of the process. They proposed changes to modernize our election process, which was followed by a public consultation.
This spring, the changes were implemented in an election held for four Council positions. Elections were held from April 16 to May 5 for two Rural District seats, one Winnipeg District seat, and one Regulated Associate Member.
Effective self-regulation in the medical profession relies on the profession's engagement and support. We thank everyone who participated in the election process. We saw an increase in nomination submissions and a 17% participation rate in the election for the Rural and Winnipeg Districts. This is the highest level of engagement in an election in recent history.
The following have been elected to Council:
Rural District Council (four-year term)
Dr. Lisa Monkman (second term serving on Council)
Dr. Nicole Vosters
Winnipeg District Council (four-year term)
Dr. Rafiq Andani
Regulated Associate Registrant Council (one-year term)
Dr. Yasaman Yazdizadeh
They will begin their term on Council on June 24, immediately following the adjournment of the annual general meeting.
Council is made up of seven elected CPSM physicians, one elected Regulated Associate registrant representative, one U of M representative, the president, president-elect, and past-president and six public representatives.
This year’s election process was modernized following a Council review and a public consultation, resulting in updates to The Affairs of the College Bylaw.
Notable changes in this year’s election process were:
The creation of an Election Committee
The role of the Election Committee is to bring forward qualified candidates. The committee developed a Council Profile, which includes the attributes and experiences desired for the composition of Council.
Four electoral districts become two
We transitioned from four electoral districts (North, West, East, and Winnipeg) to two: Rural and Winnipeg.
Entitlement to vote
For the first time, you could vote for a candidate in both the Rural and Winnipeg Districts. Previously, you could only vote for the candidates running in your own electoral district.
