A message from the Registrar

I remember the first National Physicians Day I spent at CPSM in 2020. At the time, physicians had been working tirelessly around the clock, battling COVID-19, especially those on the front lines. I was four months into my role as Assistant Registrar of the Quality Department, and on that day, I took a moment to reflect on the relentless effort and commitment the medical profession was demonstrating. In my lifetime, the public’s appreciation for the profession had never been greater.

What I remember most is the collaborative efforts of the profession working together to keep moving forward.

Five years later, when the health care system continues to be strained and where burnout and fatigue are serious problems, those collective efforts from the early days of COVID-19 come to mind.

As I meet more and more of you from all corners of the province, I am reminded of all the ways in which the profession continues to demonstrate its commitment to patients’ well-being, to each other, and professional excellence.

It’s the doctor who advocates for their patients and for equitable care for Indigenous people, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and other patient populations.

It’s the doctor who takes on teaching or mentoring in addition to their busy practice to support and inspire the next generation of the profession.

It’s the doctor who takes extra time to ensure their patients understand their diagnosis and treatment, or answer questions.

It’s the doctor who contributes to research and innovation to improve patient care in Manitoba and beyond.

Today, we recognize your professionalism, dedication, and commitment to the well-being of Manitobans.

On behalf of CPSM, thank you for all that you do — happy National Physicians’ Day.
